Trixie's Big Leaf Buffet
Hoot-hoot! Welcome aboard my Magic Feather-Ship, Alex! We have zoomed back in time to the sunny Cretaceous Period. Look down there! It is Trixie the Triceratops and her giant family. They are as big as school buses!
Professor Hoot Says:
"Did You Know? The name Triceratops means 'three-horned face' in Greek!"
Scene: Professor Hoot the owl and Alex in a small spaceship flying over a sunny prehistoric jungle with a family of Triceratops grazing below.
Trixie is a herbivore. That is a big word for a 'plant-eater!' While we might like pizza, Trixie loves crunchy ferns and juicy leaves. She uses her mouth, which looks just like a parrot's beak, to snip off the toughest twigs.
Professor Hoot Says:
"Did You Know? Herbivores only eat plants, never meat!"

Munch, crunch, munch! Trixie has hundreds of teeth hidden in the back of her mouth. They work like a giant vegetable grinder to mash up her leafy lunch. It takes a lot of salad to make a dinosaur grow so strong!
Professor Hoot Says:
"Did You Know? A Triceratops could have up to 800 teeth in its lifetime!"
Scene: A Triceratops family happily munching on a large pile of prehistoric plants and palm trees.
Suddenly, a grumpy meat-eater stomps nearby! But Trixie isn't scared. She shows off her three sharp horns and her giant bony neck frill. Her frill is like a built-in suit of armor that protects her neck like a shield!
Professor Hoot Says:
"Did You Know? The bony frill on a Triceratops could be over 3 feet wide!"
Scene: Trixie the Triceratops standing bravely with her head down, showing her three horns and large neck frill to a distant, blurry T-Rex.
The grumpy dinosaur sees Trixie's pointy horns and decides to go home. Hooray! Trixie and her family are safe. Being a herbivore means being a gentle giant, but those horns prove that Trixie is one tough cookie! Time to head back to school, Alex!
Professor Hoot Says:
"Did You Know? Triceratops lived in large groups called herds to stay extra safe!"
Scene: Professor Hoot and Alex waving goodbye from their ship as the Triceratops family rests peacefully in a green meadow.
