The Great Sock Safari
A brave girl was getting ready for school, but she had a big problem. She could not find her favorite lucky socks anywhere! Under the dusty bed, Ziggy and Zag were feeling very lonely and a bit scared. Ziggy was bright yellow with blue dots, and Zag was purple with white stripes. They knew they belonged in the warm laundry basket with their friends. "We must go on a grand journey to find our way home," Ziggy whispered bravely to Zag.
Professor Hoot Says:
"Did you know most people lose about fifteen socks every single year?"
Scene: A brave girl, a brave child with dark skin and braided hair, looks under a dark bed. Under the bed, Ziggy, a neon yellow sock with blue polka dots and a fuzzy texture, and Zag, a deep purple sock with white stripes and a tiny silver bell at the heel, are peeking out from the shadows.
The two socks wiggled out from the shadows and faced the giant wooden floor. To a little sock, the long hallway looked like a shimmering desert that went on forever. They hopped over a stray toy car and danced around a pile of heavy books. Zag's tiny silver bell made a soft 'tink-tink' sound with every happy jump. It was hard work being a sock on a mission, but they held onto each other tightly. Even though they didn't match, Ziggy and Zag were the very best of friends.

Suddenly, a mountain of orange fur appeared right in the middle of the doorway. It was Barnaby the cat, and he was taking a very long nap in a patch of warm sunlight. Ziggy and Zag stopped perfectly still, hoping the big cat wouldn't think they were colorful yarn toys. They needed to reach the laundry room, but Barnaby's long, twitching tail was blocking the entire path. "Don't worry," Ziggy said, feeling his fuzzy yellow threads tingle. "We just have to be as quiet as a falling feather to get past him."
Professor Hoot Says:
"Cats have five toes on their front paws but only four toes on their back paws."

Just as they were about to sneak past the cat, A brave girl walked into the hallway. She looked down and saw her two missing socks sitting right next to Barnaby’s soft paws. A brave girl knelt down with a wide smile, her colorful braids swinging as she reached out. She was so happy to find her lucky pair before the school bus arrived at the corner. Ziggy and Zag felt a rush of joy as her warm hands lifted them up from the cold floor. The grand journey was almost over, and they were finally safe with their favorite human.

A brave girl carried Ziggy and Zag all the way to the cozy laundry room. She gently placed them inside the tall wicker basket where all the other socks were waiting. Ziggy and Zag felt the soft embrace of the cotton shirts and fuzzy towels all around them. They were mismatched and a little bit dusty, but they were exactly where they were supposed to be. As the lid closed, Ziggy and Zag snuggled together, ready for their next big adventure in the washing machine.
