The Cosmic Speed Limit
Hoot-hoot! Welcome to the Great Universal Race Track! I am Professor Hoot, and this is my friend Alex. Today, we are going to see who is the fastest racer in the whole wide world. Look! Here comes Dash the Cheetah, the fastest runner on land. He looks ready to zoom!
Professor Hoot Says:
"Did You Know? A cheetah can run as fast as a car on a highway, reaching 70 miles per hour!"
Scene: Professor Hoot the owl wearing a bowtie and glasses, standing next to Alex in a silver spacesuit on a colorful race track in space. A cheetah is at the starting line.
Dash the Cheetah is fast, but look up! *Vroom!* Captain Blast is zooming by in a giant metal rocket. The rocket is much, much faster than the cheetah. It can fly all the way into space! But even this super rocket has a secret... it is still not the fastest thing there is.
Professor Hoot Says:
"Did You Know? Rockets have to go 17,500 miles per hour just to stay in space!"
Scene: A shiny silver rocket ship zooming high above a running cheetah on a neon-colored space track. Professor Hoot is pointing at the sky.
Now, I will turn on my Magic Cosmic Flashlight. *Click!* Look at that yellow beam of light go! Before the cheetah can take one step, and before the rocket can even start its engine, the light has already finished the race! Light is so fast it makes the rocket look like it's standing still.
Professor Hoot Says:
"Did You Know? Light travels at 186,000 miles every single second!"
Scene: Professor Hoot holding a glowing golden flashlight. A bright beam of yellow light is shooting across the stars, leaving the rocket and cheetah far behind.
Light is the champion of the universe! It is so fast that it can travel all the way around the Earth seven times in the time it takes you to blink your eyes once. Imagine that! You blink, and 'Zip!'—the light has gone around the world and back again!
Professor Hoot Says:
"Did You Know? It takes about 8 minutes for light from the Sun to reach us on Earth."
Scene: A beam of light circling a blue and green Earth many times like a glowing yellow ribbon. Alex is blinking their eyes in surprise.
In our universe, there is a special rule: nothing can ever go faster than light. It is the 'Cosmic Speed Limit.' No matter how many engines we put on a rocket, it can never catch up to a light beam. Light will always be the fastest thing in the stars. Hoot-hoot, what a fast race!
Professor Hoot Says:
"Did You Know? Because nothing goes faster than light, scientists use light to measure how far away stars are!"
Scene: Professor Hoot and Alex giving a gold trophy to a glowing spark of light. The cheetah and the rocket are cheering in the background.
