Rusty's Wonderful Woolly Dream

Maya found a new friend in the dusty attic behind a stack of old boxes. His name was Rusty, and he was a small, rounded metallic robot with shiny brass plates and glowing teal eyes. Maya noticed that Rusty looked a bit lonely and very tired. When she asked why he wasn't sleeping, Rusty beeped sadly and explained that robots only have 'off' switches. He had never seen the magical world of dreams, and he really wanted to know what they felt like.

Rusty tried very hard to imagine the sheep, but he was a robot used to big numbers and straight lines. Instead of fluffy clouds, he saw square blocks and long rows of glowing computer data. 'I am counting them, Maya, but they are just boring digits,' Rusty chirped with a tiny, mechanical sigh. Maya laughed gently and told him that sheep aren't just numbers to be added up. She told him he needed to imagine how soft and bouncy they were, like giant marshmallows with legs.

That night, something wonderful happened inside Rusty’s shiny brass head. For the first time ever, he didn't see wires or codes when he closed his eyes. He saw a beautiful watercolor world where white, fluffy sheep bounced over wooden fences in a sky filled with candy-floss clouds. Rusty was finally dreaming, and he felt as light as a feather. Maya peeked into the room and smiled when she heard her friend snoring a happy, musical tune.
