Maya and the Backward Clock

Maya was exploring her grandmother's dusty attic when she found a very strange clock. It was made of dark, polished wood and had shiny gold hands that caught the sunlight. Suddenly, the hands began to whirl backward with a soft click-clack sound. Maya felt a tingly breeze and the attic floor turned into soft, green grass. She blinked her eyes in surprise at the magical change happening all around her.

Nearby a rocking horse, Maya saw Barnaby, a small, round clockwork bear with fuzzy golden fur, a silver winding key in his back, and bright blue button eyes. Barnaby was sitting very still and looking quite grumpy on a patch of velvet moss. 'I am stuck,' Barnaby squeaked in a tiny, metallic voice that sounded like a music box. His silver winding key would not turn, and he could not walk to the Great Toy Parade. Maya knelt down to see how she could help her new friend.

Barnaby cheered and did a happy little dance on his mechanical legs! He hugged Maya's leg with his soft paws to say thank you for her kindness and clever thinking. Just then, the distant clock began to chime, signaling it was time for Maya to head home. She promised to visit the valley of vintage toys again very soon. As the world blurred, Maya found herself back in the attic, holding a small golden gear in her hand.
