Leo and the Brave Little Monster
Leo was just about to drift off to sleep when he heard a tiny 'sniffle' coming from beneath his mattress. He grabbed his shiny flashlight and peeked over the edge of the soft, blue blanket to investigate. To his surprise, he did not find a scary shadow, but a very worried new friend! Under the bed sat Barnaby, a large, fuzzy purple monster with two small horns and big gentle yellow eyes. Barnaby was wearing blue polka-dot pajamas and looking quite sad.
Scene: A cozy bedroom scene. Leo, a happy, playful kid with brown skin and curly black hair, is peeking under the side of a bed with a silver flashlight. Under the bed sits Barnaby, a large, fuzzy purple monster with two small horns, big gentle yellow eyes, and blue polka-dot pajamas. The room is filled with soft moonlight and colorful toys.
'Why are you crying, Barnaby?' Leo asked with a kind and gentle whisper. The purple monster wiped a tear and explained that the shadows in the corner looked like wiggly, scary giants. Even a monster can be afraid of the pitch-black night when it is all alone! Leo realized that his new friend was just like him and needed some comfort to feel brave. Barnaby’s tummy gave a loud, rumbling growl that sounded like a friendly tuba instrument.
Scene: Leo, a happy, playful kid with brown skin and curly black hair, is sitting on the wooden floor next to the bed. Leo is talking to Barnaby, a large, fuzzy purple monster with two small horns, big gentle yellow eyes, and blue polka-dot pajamas. Barnaby looks nervous and points a fuzzy purple finger toward a dark corner of the bedroom.
Leo decided to go on a secret nighttime mission to the kitchen to find a cozy treat. He tiptoed across the cold wooden floor, being very careful not to wake up his sleeping parents. He poured a tall glass of creamy milk and warmed it up until it felt like a warm hug in a cup. Carrying the glass carefully with both hands, Leo returned to his room where the fuzzy monster was waiting patiently.

Next, Leo reached into his toy box and pulled out his favorite little green turtle nightlight. He clicked the tiny button, and suddenly the room was filled with a soft, glowing emerald light that chased the shadows away. Barnaby’s big yellow eyes sparkled with joy as the bedroom became bright and cheerful. The friendly monster took a long, happy sip of the warm milk and felt all of his worries melt away.

With the nightlight glowing and his tummy full, Barnaby finally felt very sleepy and safe. Leo climbed back into his warm bed while the purple monster curled up comfortably on a soft rug right underneath him. They both yawned a great big yawn at the exact same time as they prepared for dreams. It was the start of a wonderful friendship, and neither of them felt afraid of the dark anymore.
